Bat Guano rummaged through the old “New Wave” compilation records in a dusty corner of WIDR’s vinyl vault, and found one with Lena Lovich’s “New Toy.” Even though he hadn’t heard it since 1984, the song instantly popped into his head, and wouldn’t leave.
Should he play it? he wondered. It was annoying and dated, but is that enough to get play on SwaG!? One might assume so.
He obsessed over it, nearly played it during the first hour. It was on the turntable, ready to go. No! Guano thought. It had to play at just the right time. So he threw it on in the middle of Green Slime, where it derailed everything and caused him to follow with Christina’s New Wave dance version of the Beatles’ “Drive My Car,” which was just goddamn awful.
SwaG! Hour One: A must-hear for the combo of the Barbarellatones’ “Milfin’!” and Johnny Moped’s disturbingly falsetto rendition of Chuck Berry’s “Little Queenie.” Also, ethnic music, Henry Mancini, animal songs, and Guano talks about nudists.
Green Slime: Going from Screamin’ Jay Hawkins to Christina to Tav Falco, this edition of Green Slime just seems wrong.
SwaG! Hour Three: Guano just seems to give up and throws things on at random. Rockabilly, doo wop, Desi Arnaz, Buck Owens.
