We almost forgot to post this week’s SwaG! because nothing exciting happened during its broadcast.
Well, that’s not exactly true. A frequent caller to the program, who is often highly intoxicated judging from his slurring, called in an agitated state due to the fact he was listening to SwaG! and watching the Democratic National Convention at the same time. He called to curse incoherently our former president, William Jefferson Clinton, and his notable wife, Mrs. Clinton. He then pledged allegiance to the Weather Underground. We called Homeland Security (two weeks in a row!), and played the Art of Noise’s “A Time for Fear.”
There is so much in our world that causes agitation, why does Bat Guano add to it with his cacophonous program? He seemed to realize this, and took things in a mellow route, with a Green Slime centered on the gentle deadpan humor of comedian Jackie Vernon. We were turned on to his famed “Watermelon” piece by I’m Learning To Share!, a web site. We played a song about thinking pink, and some cool Thelonious Monk. And some punk rock.
Hour three hit on a creepy Roxy Music tune, after more punk rock, and a portion of Gordon Jenkins’ “Seven Dreams,” the track of which this noted source notes is the inspiration of Johnny Cash’s “Folsom Prison Blues.”
