Bat Guano salutes America in this American edition of SwaG!, the first for the new American era, broadcast on the day after the inauguration of our president, Barack H. Obama. It begins with a patriotic song about our new president, by Jay Jay French of Twisted Sister, “I Want Barack” (unfortunately Mr. Guano was a little slow to start recording, but much of the song is there).
And then he plays a lot of peppy foreign music. Calypso and boogaloo and belly-dance and Eurotrash disco arrangements. But it gets really American for Green Slime, with what Mr. Guano feels should be the real national anthem, “American Pie” as performed by Killdozer.
The third hour is kicked off by an endless monolog by 1950s street musician Moondog. The hour swings through the genres in a carefree way, primitive and brutish rock and roll to sophisticated jazz to Mamie Eisenhower’s favorite recording group, The Three Suns.
(WARNING: Bat Guano did this show while hungover after taking many shots from an FDR era “Happy Days Are Here Again!” shot-glass the night before.)
