At the core of this week’s SwaG! we have a selection of dialog from “A Boy Named Charlie Brown,” as written by Rod McKuen. The “Peanuts” look at clouds, and Charlie Brown has a meltdown because of a few dandelions, and his baseball team turns into a 1968 roundpanel discussion of the weighty topic of the country’s mood.
“I think it’s time for the girl sitting on the porch, with the hair going down her back, was told about love,” McKuen says in a vaguely erotic dream of summers to come, in a cut not from the Charlie Brown album. It’s a good thing, too, because the way he says “pussy-willows” makes us uncomfortable. And that leads to a creepy maniacal recitation from Brother Theodore, which leads to a couple S&M themed songs, but not until Bill Cosby tells us about a “Little Ole Man.” If you know what we mean.
Or do you? You could stare at the clouds in the three hour radio program SwaG! and wonder about the unseen hand behind it all. Does it wish to send us a message, evoke an image, or is it all random and the message/image is something we create in our own minds?
It’s all in your head. Really.
SwaG! Broadcast of April 8, 2009. (Be aware that this is a 299.1 MB m4a file. We hope to achieve a balance between size and sound quality that is satisfactory to all.)
