They love SwaG! in Alaska. And by “they” we mean Mark, who listens to the program in Newtok (his home pictured above) where he teaches the children about what “warmth” feels like and what trees are.

He writes:

“Thank you for the wonderful things you send out through the airwaves, and now through the World Wide Web.  We don't get any radio at all out here - it sucks!  Classwork has become easier since I have been able to blast full SwaG programs in my classroom after school, especially when the other teachers poke their heads in and demand, "What the hell are you listening to?"  I tell them to talk up their complaints with the DJ.  None of the kids seem to have any problems with it, though!

“I've been listening avidly to your program for more than a decade - I even remember late one night back in the '93 flipping around the low end of the dial late one night (I do remember: it was a Wednesday) and heard Napoleon XIV singing "They're Coming To Take Me Away." That moment had stuck with me forever because it messed me up for some time - probably still is.  All I can hope is that I'll be able to somehow screw up some kid's head just as much with the stuff I'm playing on my computer now, thanks to you.”

We thank him for corrupting Alaska’s children.
